The product is mainly used as cationic dye intermediates, used in the production of cationic orange 2GL, cationic red BL, cationic red 2GL, used for dye production is often first methylated, and further made into N-methyl-2chemicalbook-phenyl indole. The methylating agent was dimethyl sulfate, and the reaction was carried out in chlorobenzene solvent at 60-65℃. The yield was 83.5%. 2-phenylindole is also used as a heat stabilizer for emulsion polyvinyl chloride.
